About Us

We are the University of Oxford's Cheerleading Club, entering our sixteenth competitive season. The Oxford Sirens were first established in 2007 and we have become one of Oxford’s strongest sporting communities through our talent, inclusivity and boundless team spirit. We have two amazing squads who compete annually in national and Varsity competitions and now hope to capitalise on increased national recognition of the sport, to raise the profile of cheerleading in Oxford and the U.K., whilst maintaining an impressive Varsity record. In order to be the fantastic team, we put massive preparation into our high-energy routines and impressive stunts. But we  organise events to bring us even closer as a team and build our unwavering spirit.

Training & Practice

The Oxford Sirens train twice a week at Iffley Sports Centre, with training sessions focused on routines for competitions and stunting. Training involve skill building exercises such as stunting skills, tumbling and jumps. Practice can also entail  choreography practice, with rehearsals that make an amazing routine perfect. There can be additional sessions with strength and conditioning focused on preventing injuries and improving movement of the members. These types of sessions include stretching, bodyweight exercises and cardiovascular training.

Competitions, Varsity and Cuppers

The main competitions that the Oxford Sirens, both L2 and L3, compete in include UK University Nationals presented by British Cheerleading Association and Future Cheer. These take place in competition season, with majority of training sessions are lead by coach and focused on preparing these. The routine is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Varsity competitions are sport contests between Oxford and Cambridge; these take place at the British Cheerleading Association University Nationals with points compared between the rival teams.

Cuppers is an inter-collegiate cheer competition in which stunt groups create a 1 min 15 second cheer routine, consisting of stunts, jumps and dance. Each group creates a routine with the help from coaches at training sessions over the first few weeks of Trinity. Any member of the University can compete in this.

Socials and Events

As well as training and practices, the members of the Oxford Sirens also partake in social events and other events arranged by other committees or by our welfare representative. Our social secretaries puts together entertaining social events such as crewdates, pizza nights, and our annual award dinner. And our wonderful welfare representative arranges for welfare brunches, yoga sessions and movie nights.
